Conrad LjungströmParticipant
Hiya Bryan!
Sorry it didn’t work with either of those.. I’m assuming I was to switch out
OK “ATD*99***1#” for
OK “ATD*99#” and
OK “ATD*99*1#”
same thing logged in messages. :/
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
I exchanged my telenor.chat for the one your provided. I got no feedback in the console (am i supposed to?) but ip a gives:
ppp0: <POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST,NOARP> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN qlen 3 link/ppp
like before. So no change there. excerpt from /var/log/messages

The SIM I have is Telenor connexion, I don’t know for sure but could they be a separate provider and have a different address?
Conrad LjungströmParticipantOkay this is going to sound extremely silly but it actually seems to have been the case with the capacitors in either the transformer or in the unit itself. I kept the thing unplugged for a good 24 hours and once I plugged it in the SIM responded as it should. (Thank Odin!) So the hardware seems to be okay although (perhaps?) a bit too persistent.And to think it took 3 weeks to figure this out. Embarrassing.
Thanks for your help Derrek.
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
Thanks for your reply. Okay so no hot-swapping, well I assumed as much but it’s good to know for sure. Yeah I’ve tried unplugging the unit and plugging it back in again multiple times and in between trying different SIM cards. However – a thought just struck me. I’ve unplugged it from the wall but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a low power consuming unit like this will immediately notice it(?). If there are capacitors inside the unit that might be enough to keep the thing from resetting properly. I’ll try unplugging it for a longer while to see if it helps. Also, is it possible that the power adapter contains a capacitor that might help keep it alive for the short durations that I’ve kept it disconnected?
I will try and get back with the results.
Conrad LjungströmParticipantThis issue is still not resolved, effectively rendering the box useless for my purposes. If there is anything anyone here can think of that I can try to fix the problem, let me know.
/Conrad
Conrad LjungströmParticipantOkay, I thought of something that might be relevant. I am running the web-server image on my unit. Could that be the reason why the SIM is not responding?
/Conrad
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
Still not responding.
Carrier is Telenor (Sweden) and should fulfill 3G standards in Europe. I’m not read up on whether there are any differences between American and European cell networks, but it seems strange that it’s not working. Do you know of any differences that might cause this? I’m guessing that there are differences in frequency usage but that really shouldn’t matter for the connectivity of the SIM-card, right?
/Conrad
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi Again!
So.. I’m still stuck at the whole :
microcom /dev/ttyUSB3
AT+CPIN?
and I keep getting: +CME ERROR: SIM not inserted.
-issue. I’ve no clue what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tested inserting another SIM-card (the one I use in my phone) and nothing. I also tried inserting the other card (meant for the box) into a normal phone and it detects carrier and network without problems.
>_<
Again, any help would be lovely.
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
It’s the H4-P1.
I see, so once I manage to establish a connection it’ll pop up. What about accessing any information the SIM keeps, like what tower it’s connected to. Is there any way of doing that?
Thanks!
Conrad LjungströmParticipantI am having issues with my SIM-card. It does not seem to register that I’ve inserted one.
I did:
microcom /dev/ttyUSB3
AT+CPIN?
and I keep getting: +CME ERROR: SIM not inserted.
First I thought I’d just inserted the SIM-card the wrong way, but I checked and the way I’ve done it is really the only way that makes sense, so that can’t be it. I also restarted the modem and tried the AT+CPIN? again with the same results. Do I need to do something special to activate this functionality on the modem?
Also, why are there only two interfaces listed when I do ifconfig (lo and eth0)? Shouldn’t there be one for 3G also?
/Conrad
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
Thanks! That’s awesome!
Just one question though. If I web in to just the normal http://192.168.2.1/ I don’t get the index.html page that I put directly in the /www/pages folder. Where should I place it?
/Conrad
#EDIT: I should say that when i do web into the http://192.168.2.1/ I get the “It Works!” message. : )
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
First – I’ve been posting on this forum for the past two weeks and I’ve gotten a lot of good help and just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has helped me and been patient with my at times somewhat stupid questions. ^_^ However, I have more. So here it goes.
I’m trying to see if I can get lighttpd up and running. I would like it to run a simple php-script that returns some data that is stored locally on the box. It seems like it should be a fairly easy thing to do judging by the number of people who are using lighttpd. The way I understand it I will need to bitbake a new image file and flash it into the device with lighhttpd supported. It’s after this that I get a bit confused. In particular I would like to know –
1. Is lighttpd now installed and ready to be run?
2. If 1. How do I run it?
3. where can I find the corresponding config file and which is the default www directory.
4. How do I install php?
/Conrad : )
Conrad LjungströmParticipantNevermind the above, I compiled with arm-corecdp-linux-gnueabi-gcc instead. : )
Conrad LjungströmParticipantRight, thanks. That’s awesome. I just have one more question, if I do:
# mts-io-sysfs store dout0 1
and then i cross the corresponding cable/pin for din7 with the dout0 cable/pin should I not get a 1 when doing:
# mts-io-sysfs show din7
Or how does that work? 🙂 Sorry, this must seem like childishly stupid questions for you.
/Conrad
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHello again : )
First – no, I didn’t get it to work yet, although I may have made a mistake somewhere and I haven’t had time to redo the procedure to make sure. Will let you know if/when I do.
Second, the ls issue was resolved. As you stated it placed me in /home/root and once I put some files in the folder it displayed them. I guess I was just a bit confounded by not getting any results and neglected to think about the reason 😛 Thanks for the help!
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
Thanks! I’ll try it out. Do you know if there are any power consumption considerations or other drawbacks that would be good to know about when using Java? Also, when I ssh to the device I can’t run ls on it – or at least it doesn’t return any directory/file listings. Is this normal? :/
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
So I was just testing a few things and I ran into some trouble. I don’t quite understand the error message I got and thought I’d ask since this is likely piece of cake for most people around here.
So what I did was I borrowed some code from the c++ reference page.
( http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstdlib/system/ ) to try and see if i could get a nonzero output, but when I tried running bitbake it went boom. 🙁
.c file
—
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main()
{
int i = 5;
printf(“UmmDeeDum! Processor blah..”);
if(system(NULL)) puts(“Ok”);
else exit(1);
printf(“Executing Command LS…n”);
i=system(“ls”);
printf(“Value returned: %d.n”, i);
}
—
.bb file
—
DESCRIPTION = “test”
SECTION = “examples”
LICENSE = “GPL”
SRC_URI = “file://test.c”
S = “${WORKDIR}”
do_compile() {
${CC} ${CFLAGS} ${LDFLAGS} test.c -o test
}
do_install() {
install -d ${D}${bindir}
install -m 0755 test ${D}${bindir}
}

result when running bitbake test:

Unexpected to say the least…
#EDIT
This should probably be in the MultiConnect OCG (Cellular Development Platform) forum instead of General (my bad) :/
Conrad LjungströmParticipantHi!
I’m new here and was just wondering if there are any good beginner tutorials around that us newbies can look at and test out. The only piece of code I’ve found with instructions on how to install is the helloworld-example here on the multitech website, which was awesome. Since I’m assuming the general approach would be the same for all applications what I’m requesting is explanations on how access and deploy things on the jvm and/or how to access the onboard devices like the GPS. I am currently completely clueless about where to even start. This may not be straight forward but any help would really be appreciated.
