Hi, I was using the device for about a year without any problems.
Suddenly my application start having problems when sending sms. (the commands responses never return….)

So we took the modem and start ussing hyperterminal to try to get whats going on.

    The symptoms are these:
    1) after sending 3 or 4 basic AT commands the hyperterminal freezes and you cannot continue sending or receiving commands
    2) as Ht freezes th port gets closed and is not usable by any other app
    3) you need to reboot the computer in order to continue..

So, after that we reboot computer, started an serial port monitor tool
and then hyperterminal (to trace whats hapenning behind)

    Here is a trace (http://tinypic.com/r/2115fgw/5):

    trace

As you can see, after sending a few AT commands, Ht frezzes and the monitor start capturing a huge quantity of eventss of type “IOCTL_SERIAL_GET_COMMSTATUS”
In a 5 minutes the serial port monitor captured 5k events of that type.

We tryed using another SIM card, we ran above test in different computers, with different cables..

So we are thinking this is a hardware failure that is causing this incident.

have you ever seen something similar?

I don’t recall any reports of similar behavior for this product, however this model has been obsolete for several years. A hardware problem could explain the events captured by the serial port monitor software.
I noticed that the software appears to be monitoring ‘COM25’ which I would assume is a virtual COM port of some type (maybe a USB to serial converter?). You may want to try connecting the modem to a PC with a standard serial port (COM1 or COM2) and see if you can duplicate the behavior, this could help further isolate the problem between the modem itself and the virtual COM device. This would be a good test if the problem goes away when you reboot the computer without removing power to the modem.
