    I’m using a USB thumb drive as a backup data source. In my testing, I have noticed that the thumb drive is really, really slow. I’d ballpark 2-3 slower than the SD Card when writing dummy files for testing purposes. For example, I’m trying to fill a 4Gb thumb drive and the program has been running for three hours. The drive is only ~25% full.

    Is there a way to improve performance?

    If you are fine with asynchronous writes, then you can check the mount options and make sure that the “sync” option is not set.
