Commetrex BladeWare: The Solution for Multi-Tech Systems’ FaxFinder IP

Since 2004, Multi-Tech Systems has been nearly alone in its ability to address the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market for fax servers. Unlike most enterprise fax-server vendors, Multi-Tech has significant in-house hardware engineering capability. It leveraged this core competency to be the first company to offer a Class two fax modem and then developed its category-defining analog (PSTN interface) FaxFinder fax server.

Multi-Tech Announces New FaxFinder® FFX40 Fax Server Models

August 24th, 2012

All-in-one fax solution enables quicker transmission of larger documents to meet today’s need

Multi-Tech Systems announces the FaxFinder FFX40 models, the latest extension to its successful fax server line. The new FaxFinder® FFX40 fax server combines a more robust hardware design and industry-leading Multi-Tech fax software, allowing organizations to easily centralize their fax operations, reduce operational cost, integrate with business applications and PBX systems, and  easily integrate with any business operation.

The FaxFinder® fax server is an all-in-one appliance that allows users to send and receive faxes electronically, eliminating the need for legacy, paper-based fax machines and expensive subscription-based fax services. Incoming faxes are delivered to a recipient’s email in-box or network folder so they can be accessed via personal computer, laptop or mobile device. Incoming faxes can also be routed to a network printer. Outbound faxes can be sent using the FaxFinder fax client, a Web interface, or using the T.37 email-to-fax protocol.  The FaxFinder fax client also allows faxes to be sent through Microsoft® Office applications.

The newest FFX40 models build on a FaxFinder legacy that spans almost 10 years. Throughout this period, Multi-Tech has listened to our customers’ needs and evolved the solution to enable the transmission of large documents containing many pages or images while working with large address books.

“The FaxFinder continues to be a successful part of our product portfolio. Early models were more about replacing paper-based fax machines to streamline the faxing process, while saving on paper and toner costs. As more customers integrate using the web services API, we find they are sending larger faxes and so a more robust hardware platform was needed,” said David Tincher, senior product manager. “The FFX40 models address these needs with four times the internal memory of the previous versions.”

Whether transmitting legal documents or electronic health records that contain medical charts and large media files, like CT scans and MRIs, the new FFX40 models meet the critical faxing needs of today by increasing three-fold the maximum file size capacity. The expansion of internal memory from 256K to 1GB enables these larger files to be sent faster and to larger groups of recipients. Each of the new FFX40 models is also rack-mountable for easy installation and management by a company’s IT department.

Multi-Tech offers value-added resellers a variety of sales tools and support, including collateral, product photos, website descriptions, product webinars and more at www.multitech.com/faxfinder.go.

The Importance of Connections

June 28th, 2012

Are you Connected? M2M enables connectivity, of course. But Dave Smith talks about another important type of industry connection.

By Dave Smith, Vice President of Innovation

The M2M market is not only growing, it’s maturing. One of the signs of maturity is the sets of significant relationships being forged between carriers, cloud application vendors and device manufacturers. No longer can one company provide the complete solution to its customers. Far from just connecting a simple device to your machine and sending the data somewhere. Nowadays a provider needs to start from the device, through the network to the cloud database and application in order to service the demands of their customers, and it’s just too much for most companies to do by themselves. Hence the strategic relationships we see forming now, including our own with major carriers, MVNOs (Mobile Virtual network Operators), platform companies and systems integrators. The coming couple of years will see solidification around standardized devices, protocols, cloud applications and carriers. We’ll be seeing existing companies, too slow to forge these connections, dropping out of the market, and see a growth of formerly customized and now standard solutions providing solutions for an ever-growing list of opportunities to manage systems. Through it all Multi-Tech Systems will be there with its broad lines of devices, standardized protocols and out of the box connectivity enabling customers to take advantage of our strong partner relationships.

Faxing is Seeing Healthy Growth Thanks to…

June 14th, 2012

By Steve Arend, Account Manager

I often find myself answering the same question over and over: “Are people still faxing?” The short answer is yes, individuals and organizations still fax. Not only is fax technology still relevant today, but research points to growth in the number of documents being faxed in the future. There are a few industries driving this increase in demand and one of the key cogs is healthcare.

Why is fax important to healthcare? Two things immediately come to mind: fax is secure and relatively inexpensive when compared to other secure delivery methods. Security is key when we talk about medical records and thanks to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), it is now a requirement. HIPAA is responsible for changing how medical information is sent, received and managed.

So where does fax fit in to all this? HIPAA has set some requirements specific to fax transmissions and they include:
  – Fax machines must be placed in secure areas that aren’t generally accessible
  – Faxed information is only accessible by authorized personnel
  – Recipient information is verified before transmission on outbound faxes
  – Cover sheets are to be used
  – Confirmation notices are saved
  – Received faxes are saved in a secure location
  – Fax transmission logs must be maintained

While these requirements could be met using a traditional, legacy fax machine, most healthcare facilities are implementing a fax server. A fax server allows fax documents to be delivered and stored on the network and not printed automatically, which helps to satisfy the security requirements previously mentioned. Fax servers also allow users to send faxes through their desktop, adding another layer of security (no physical document required).

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) companies are popping up everywhere and many healthcare institutions are required to implement these systems. EMR/EHR systems are designed to manage the medical/health records and satisfy HIPAA requirements. When it comes to delivery of these EMR/EHR records, fax is still preferred. Many EMR/EHR companies are looking to invest in integrating their software with a hardware solution, like a fax server. Integration can lead to even more efficiency and security.

I think we can all agree that fax is an “old” technology. Almost everyone knows that most content that would have been faxed 20 years ago is now relegated to email and text messaging, but neither of those methods provide the security many industries still require. Be sure to reach out to me to learn about Multi-Tech’s fax server solution, the FaxFinder, or other industries that continue to fax.
